USED COOKING OIL PRODUCERS
Used cooking oil (UCO) is produced during food preparation by households, food service companies and other consumers of vegetable oils. After the edible oil is used in frying or cooking, it acquires characteristics of waste, representing a serious environmental polluter. Inadequate disposal of used cooking oil in drains or mixing it with municipal waste could become serious environmental and health hazard.
LEGAL STANDARDS AND OBLIGATIONS
Used cooking oil is properly disposed if stored in special plastic vessels (containers or canisters) that are collected by an authorised and licensed waste management company for collection, transport, further treatment, recycling or professional disposal of used cooking oil.
Every company in the food service industry that uses vegetable cooking oils and fats should properly store and hand over the used cooking oil to a licenced waste carrier for collection and disposal of this type of waste. In compliance with Article 42-a, as stated in the Law on Waste Management, all legal entities that generate waste are legally obligated to hand it over to a certified waste management company.
Disposal of used cooking oil in sewerage drains, sinks or directly in the environment, including collection of UCO by unauthorized entities for this waste management activity, is illegal and punishable by law.
